Brisbane put their strongest premiership claim forward with a gallant 18-12 victory to continue Newcastle's ANZ Stadium duck. The Knights jumped out to a lightning start with two tries to lead 10-0 but the Broncos fought back with a try to Lote Tuqiri and a penalty goal to Mick De Vere on half time. The game breaking play was the sinbinning of Gorden Tallis 10 minutes into the second half. But instead of letting the Knights run away with it, the Broncos scored through a miraculous Michael De Vere try to be within two points when Tallis returned. Fired up, the Broncos stormed home with a try to Chris Walker and another penalty goal, the Knights unable to turn the tide and surrendering for the fifth time at ANZ Stadium in as many starts.
