Carl Webb and Lote Tuqiri scored doubles and Michael De Vere scored a personal haul of 20 points as the Brisbane Broncos inflicted their first defeat on Melbourne Storm in Melbourne. The Broncos started strongly, jumping to a 12-0 lead but the Storm fought back to trail 20-8 at half time with a stiff breeze at their backs in the second half. However, the Broncos went on a scoring spree in the second half, the 28-point margin representing the club's biggest ever win over the Storm. 17-year-old halfback, Brett Seymour, stood up to the task of filling Allan Langer's shoes with a brilliant performance in only his fourth first grade game, scoring his first try to boot.
