Parramatta have been relegated to a knife edge six week battle to remain in the top eight after inflicting the Eels sixth defeat in seven matches. After a tight opening 30 minutes which left the sides locked at 6-all, the Broncos scored 20 unanswered points for a convincing 26-6 victory that keeps them in reach of the minor premiership. However, the match was marred with some ugly incidents late in the piece, with Allan Langer placed on report for dropping the knees and David Solomona coming to blows firstly with Gorden Tallis and then Andrew Gee. The second outbreak saw both Solomona and Gee sent to the sin bin for the final seven minutes.
Brisbane's first win over Parramatta in five starts was highlighted by stellar defence, particularly in the opening 10 minutes in which the Eels pressured the Broncos line repeatedly. And while the defence was the talking point, all four of Brisbane's tries came from a combination of strength, speed and skill. It was the Broncos' 9th win at Parramatta Stadium in 11 starts.
