Brisbane Broncos vs Bulldogs

Telstra Premiership Round 2
ANZ Stadium, Brisbane, Friday March 22, 2002

It's now been 5 matches since the Brisbane Broncos have tasted victory at ANZ Stadium after a heart stopping 20-all draw against the Bulldogs in the first home game of the season. The match was a tight tussle throughout with the largest margin at any stage 6 points, a try to Hazem El Masri on the stroke of full time salvaging a draw. But it was his first try just before half time that was arguably the turning point of the match. El Masri looked on replays to have his foot in touch simultaneously with getting the ball down, the video referee giving him the benefit of the doubt.

For halfback, Allan Langer, it was a mixed comeback to the venue he made his own in the 1990s. The former Australian captain gave away an intercept to Nigel Vagana that got the Bulldogs back into the game after a strong Broncos start. Langer then setup tries to Shaun Berrigan and and Darren Lockyer to take the lead late in the game, only to lose the feed in a scrum leading to El Masri's match saving try.
