Brisbane Broncos vs Penrith Panthers

Telstra Premiership Round 18
Penrith Stadium, Sydney, Saturday July 13, 2002

The Brisbane Broncos have survived another error-riddled performance to maintain their position in the top 3, defeating a gallant but outclassed Penrith 38-20 at Penrith Stadium. A hat-trick to South Sydney bound winger, Chris Walker, was the highlight of the match while Test debutant Brent Tate had another strong performance, denied a try by a matter of millimetres in the opening minutes and setting up Michael De Vere with a blistering arc-like run in field. With captain Gorden Tallis and prop Shane Webcke rested after big efforts in the Test 24 hours earlier, Darren Lockyer took over the captaincy and young forwards Brad Meyers and Corey Parker stood up to be counted, as did veteran Andrew Gee.
