Match Summary
Sydney Roosters joined the Brisbane Broncos at the top of the NRL ladder after avenging last year's Grand Final defeat with a 20-18 win at the Sydney Football Stadium. In what was the best game of the 2001 season so far, the sides went virtually try for try until a Craig Fitzgibbon penalty goal with just 10 minutes remaining gave the Roosters a 2-point buffer. Michael De Vere had an opportunity to level the scores with just four minutes on the clock but the kick sailed wide, the Roosters holding on for a famous victory in front of a crowd of 21126. The game deserved far better.
