Match Summary
The Brisbane Broncos have slumped to their fifth straight loss, equalling the club's worst ever losing run set in 1989 and 1999, and all but ending hopes of a top four finish and a home final. The Sharks controlled the first half scoring two tries and bombing several others, before the Broncos scored a fortuitous try through Carl Webb before half time to be within 8 points. Two tries to Lote Tuqiri and Chris Walker after the break gave the Broncos a slender 16-14 lead, but the Sharks came home too strong, winning 24-16 and securing a top four spot.
Worse news for the Broncos when halfback Shaun Berrigan left the field in the first half with a shoulder injury, although thankfully not the same shoulder he injured in round 11 against the Sharks. Shane Webcke and Michael De Vere also suffered minor knee injuries and may be in doubt for Sunday's must-win match against Canberra at ANZ Stadium.
