The Broncos put away the Cronulla Sharks to maintain their position near the top of the ladder in just 55 minutes. At that stage the Broncos led 35-6 against a shellshocked Cronulla outfit. Brisbane clocked off at that point and the Sharks fought out a gritty 10-all second half draw. Broncos fullback Darren Lockyer was the star, putting in by far his most impressive performance in 2001, and it couldn't come at a more appropriate time; one week before the opening State of Origin game.
