Rhino is the steel in the Broncos pack. A lethal tackler, Ryan has featured heavily in "top tackle" competitions. However, his aggression has got him into trouble at the judiciary, spending several stints on the sidelines during his career.

A tendency to slip high detracts from his lethal waist driving tackle, which has seated some of the games toughest men on their backsides. Ryan also supports his halves well and is a determined hit up man.

Voted the Broncos player of the year in 1997, Ryan is a consistent, hard working player who is a valuable member of the forward pack.

Ryan made headlines for his inclusion in the Queensland State of Origin side in 1998, argued at the time as a controversial selection. Ryan put that criticism to rest with an outstanding performance.

Along with Gee, Langer, Renouf and Plath, Ryan departs at the end of 1999. He rejoins the Rugby Union ranks in 2000, playing for the ACT Brumbies in the Super 12. A strong one on one tackler, he will no doubt show the Rah-Rahs what tackling is all about.
