Kerrod Walters was an original Bronco signing back in 1988. He took over from Greg Conescu in 1989 and played Origin and Test football at the age of just 21. However, a fateful suspension in 1991 gave older brother Steve his representative jerseys, which Kerrod was never able to get back permanently.

A classical hooker, Kerrod was instrumental in the Broncos' 1992-93 premiership victories. However at the end of 1996, coach Wayne Bennett told him he could not be guaranteed a spot in first grade in 1997 and gave him permission to look elsewhere.

Two years with the illfated Adelaide Rams followed, before captaining Gateshead Thunder in their only season as a standalone club in English Super League. A near fatal car accident to wife Maureen while holidaying in Thailand cut that stint short, with the family returning to Brisbane at the end of 1999.

Walters has signed a one year deal with the Broncos, with Bennett looking at him as a backup for Luke Priddis. However, Walters has no intention of being anything but a first grader in 2000, and judging by his early trial form, there's no reason why he won't add to his 174 Broncos games in the 2000 season.
