Paul Green was enjoying a role as a commentator with Fox Sports when Broncos coach Wayne Bennett contacted him in May asking for help.  The Broncos had just lost halfback Brett Seymour for the season to a knee injury and Darren Lockyer was out with a rib problem.  Hooker Barry Berrigan was also out for the season with a neck injury.

Bennett called on the former Queensland State of Origin player to come out of retirement to help the Broncos out of a major hole.  Six weeks later, Green was playing for the Toowoomba Clydesdales and has been a solid performer at hooker and halfback. Green, however, had no intention of coming to the club just to play Queensland Cup, and if a first grade opportunity arose he would take it.

With the luckless Michael Ryan suffering a season ending knee injury in the round 21 win over the Sharks, Green has received his opportunity just five weeks before the finals.  Likely to support the Broncos off the bench at either halfback or hooker, Green will provide some invaluable experience at the business end of the season.

Finals football is nothing new for Green, a former Rothman's Medal winner for Best and Fairest Player of the Year back in the days of the ARL competition, and a player who guided the Sharks to finals throughout the 1990s including the 1997 Super League Grand Final.
