Danny Bampton is a strong, talented centre who has the potential to become one of the greats of the game. Brought to the club in 1998, Bampton spent his early time with the Broncos staying with the Bennett family. In round 6 that season, he made his debut for the Broncos, coming off the bench against Manly.

From there it was downhill for Bampton. A loss of attitude and a poor work ethic saw him dumped to reserve grade and out of the eye of Bennett. However, a strong offseason and a good start with the Toowoomba Clydesdales saw him return to first grade in 2000.

Bampton played 9 first grade games in the Broncos' fifth premiership season, scoring his first and only first grade try in the thrilling 26-22 loss to Newcastle at Marathon Stadium in Round 18. Sadly Bampton missed the business end of the season after suffering a torn cruciate ligament against Canterbury in Round 21.

After successful offseason knee surgery, Bampton should be ready to go when the Broncos begin their 2001 premiership defence.
