Casey has progressed in leaps and bounds over the past two seasons and was considered unlucky to have missed Queensland Origin selection last year. Starting the season on the bench, McGuire quickly became coach Bennett’s ‘Mr Fixit’ and spent time in the halves, covering for injured pair Brett Seymour and Darren Lockyer, and also at hooker. His outstanding support play and crushing defence was again a feature of his play, with the development of a solid kicking and passing game added benefits of his time as a ball player.
FACT: Whenever possible (and practical), Casey spends time helping out his grandparents on their wheat property at Meandarra in south-west Queensland
