Dane Carlaw achieved everything in 2001. He went from interchange forward to Test forward in 12 months, playing a crucial role in Queensland's State of Origin series triumph. Carlaw went on to help Australia defeat New Zealand in the one-off Test and then played in all three Kangaroos' tests against Great Britain in November.
Carlaw's greatest asset is his pace, which is remarkable for such a large man. In the clear he is nearly impossible to bring down and his defensive work is solid. However, a poor finish to the season for the Broncos last season and the return of Gorden Tallis has forced Carlaw to fight to retain his spot in the starting side.
However, he will be a vitally important component if the Broncos are to regain the title they lost last year.
