Shane Webcke has become one of the game's premier front rowers. A stampeding runner, his size and strength terrorises opposition defences. Webcke can often be seen making 20 and 30 metre barges through some of the best defensive lines.
Webcke's tackling is hard and accurate, very rarely missing its mark. After injury problems early in his first grade career, Webcke concentrated on his fitness and condition leading into the 1997 season and has never looked back.
A Queensland and Australian representative, Webcke promises to climb the elite ladder further in years to come and become the lynchpin of the Broncos pack.
Webcke was disappointed with his 1999 season. His form picked up greatly towards the end of the season and was chosen for Australia in the Tri-Nations series, but was forced to withdraw through injury.
He returned to his best in 2000, proving outstanding all season until a broken arm looked to end his involvement in the Round 24 match against St George-Illawarra. Miraculously, and suffering obvious discomfort, he returned in the Preliminary Final against Parramatta and backed up in the Grand Final.
Webcke toured with Australia's successful World Cup team, and was one of only two Australian players named in the final Team of the Tournament.
