Kelly Playing For Less

As we approach the marketing season in the NRL, Broncos fans begin to think that they will see a few faces leave Brisbane for more money, like Lote Tuqiri (Rugby Union), Chris Walker, Shane Walker and Ashley Harrison (Souths) last year. It is the time of the year that every Broncos official, fan and player dreads as the threat of leaving the club apporaches their doorstep.

Coming off contract this year, Stuart Kelly has settled for less at the Broncos after volunteering to take a pay cut to remain in Brisbane. Following the footsteps of prop, Petero Civoniceva, Kelly has said that he is not going anywhere.

"Money doesn't really worry me," Kelly said.

"I've had another child since I came here I don't want to go anywhere.

"I'm a very loyal person and I'm a good chance of staying if they offer me another contract.

"I don't know what the club wants to do, but I'd love to stay."

As 2 of the 16 players who are due to re-sign by the June 30 deadline handed out by the NRL, Kelly and Civoniceva's volunteering to take pay-cuts would be a welcome relief to Bruno Cullen.

But Kelly can't see anyone leaving Brisbane.

"There is a really good group of blokes here and a great feeling around the club," Kelly said.

"I can't see anyone wanting to leave, but I suppose you never know."

After the re-signing of Shane Webcke some time ago, it looks like the rest of the crowd will follow the big names. The big name re-signings should show the up-and-comers that there is no better club to be.
